SAFARICOM FINANCIAL BOSS EXITS

FINISH LINE

Safaricom’s head of financial services Ronald Webb has exited the firm barely a year after he was appointed.
In a memo to staff, Safaricom chief executive officer Bob Collymore indicated that Mr. Webb’s final day would be July 25 as he headed back to the United Kingdom for family reasons.
“Tomorrow, Tuesday 25th July 2017, will be Ron’s last day with Safaricom as he moves back to the UK for family reasons. I wish him all the best as he returns following 18 productive years in Kenya,” Mr. Collymore said in the memo.

Mr Webb was head hunted by Safaricom in August 2016 from Equity Bank to drive the telecom’s bid to make the mobile money transfer service M-Pesa more robust. His exit comes at a time Safaricom has completed upgrading its M-Pesa system to add new services to its menu.
Mr. Webb is credit with having introduced M-PESA Kadogo, launched the pilot of M-PESA OneTap as well as creating a simplified user environment aimed at helping small businesses plug into M-PESA.
Safaricom has invested heavily in building the new M-Pesa infrastructure that has resulted in a higher processing capacity, enabling clients to access more series as well as complete bank payments in real time.
Before joining Equity Bank Mr. Webb was the co-founder of the Paynet and PesaPoint payment systems.

M-Pesa has become a crucial revenue generator for Safaricom which raked in Sh55 billion in the last financial year. Safaricom is in the process of expanding its M-Pesa services to other African countries
